We must look after our harmonious way of life

I normally refrain from answering letters which have been written by Allan Gatt as they do not make much sense. However, he insists on quoting me and telling me what to do. How interesting! This is just what I believe that these illegal immigrants will do when they have enough clout.

Mr Gatt's letter reaches the climax of stupidity when he refers to the Imam's declaration about the chopping off of a thief's hands in Sharia law as "the monstrous assertion made by an isolated individual" (His words).

For this correspondent's information, the Imam is not an isolated individual but is in an Islamic leadership position and is often the respected leader of the community.

Mr Gatt lives in the past and refers continually to events that happened over 50 years ago. On the other hand I am concerned about what is happening today and what will happen in the near future to our beloved island and to our way of life.

This correspondent contends my statement that Muslim women can be seen with prams and children. Has he not seen the many immigrant women landing in Malta in a pregnant state? Did their children disappear into thin air? Muslims normally procreate at a rate of six to eight kids per family.

As Professor Emeritus Bernard Lewis of Princeton University, a leading scholar of Islam has said, "The current leading trends show that Europe will have a Muslim majority by the end of this century."

Of course most of us would like to help these people but unfortunately, it is practically impossible since our millions of euros should be directed to those many Maltese who are living below the poverty line. Furthermore, Muslims, like the cuckoo, tend to dictate matters even when they are merely uninvited guests.

Like most writers on the subject Mr Gatt has not told us what is his end game. Does he want them to remain in their tents? Does he wish to see them integrated into our society? Should we give them passports? What?

I believe that Mr Gatt's letters should be addressed to all those Maltese who are out of a job due to the fact that it has been taken by an illegal immigrant. They should be addressed to those Maltese women who are living in Marsa and Birżebbuġa and who are afraid to venture out of their homes in the evening.

I ask Mr Gatt to accompany me when I meet Maltese whose pensions do not last further than the third week of the month.

I will not be answering any more letters on this subject. In my letters I have made my solution quite clear. Most of my countrymen know that we have a beautiful and harmonious island, and that if we wish to safeguard it, inertia is not an option.
