Volunteers trying to refloat stranded pilot whales at Colville Bay on the Coromandel Peninsula yesterday. Twenty-one pilot whales died and 42 were successfully refloated after stranding at the bay while another 105 whales died after beaching themselves on Farewell Spit, at the top of the South Island on December 26.
