More than 600 visas were issued by Malta’s embassy in Riyadh this year, the Foreign Ministry said.
It said in a statement that it was envisaged that last year’s figure would be surpassed by over 130 per cent by the end of the year.
The ministry said the embassy received more than 150 contacts throughout the past two years.
The focus was mainly to exploit business potential, distribute literature and other promotional material, assist with visa applications, explore marketing alliances, and organise a schedule of meaningful meetings.
The embassy was also approached to solve commercial disputes and to assist with debt collection.
The ministry said that there were indications that English language schools were benefitting from the work done by the embassy, which also helped Air Malta enter into a special agreement with Saudia Airlines.
