An autopsy has revealed that a musician who was found dead after crashing into four parked cars last week died of natural causes.

Saviour Portelli, 59, a former band master, was found lying lifeless in his olive green Opel Astra in Canon Road, Sta Venera, on Christmas Eve.

The police said he was driving from Birkirkara towards Ħamrun when his car suddenly veered off the carriageway.

He was pronounced dead on site despite paramedics' desperate attempts to revive him.

An autopsy found he died as a result of ischaemic heart disease. This is caused when not enough blood reaches the heart because of narrow arteries, often leading to heart failure.

Mr Portelli was buried yesterday.
