Israel announces new Jewish homes in Jerusalem area
Israel announced plans today to build nearly 700 new homes for Jews in areas of the occupied West Bank it considers part of Jerusalem, a city it has excluded from a limited moratorium on settlement construction.
The United States has voiced dismay at previous Israeli building plans in and around Arab East Jerusalem, which Palestinians want to make the capital of a future state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Under the new blueprint, Israel's Housing Ministry has invited contractors to bid on the construction of 198 housing units in Pisgat Zeev, 377 homes in Neve Yaakov and 117 dwellings in Har Homa, settlements near Jerusalem that were built on land captured in a 1967 war.
The construction plan was announced as part of a wider government project to build several thousand new homes in Israel.
There was no immediate Palestinian comment.
Israel has declared all of Jerusalem its indivisible and eternal capital, a claim that has not won international recognition.
Under US pressure, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced in November a 10-month freeze of new housing starts in West Bank settlements but said it would not include the municipal borders Israel has defined for Jerusalem.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has demanded a complete cessation of settlement activity, saying he would not resume peace talks with Israel until it did so.
Israel and the United States have called on Abbas to return to peace negotiations, suspended for the past year, without preconditions.

Firstly your claim that the part Jerusalem (what nowadays is called E. Jerusalem) was ever "designated to be the Palestinians' capital" is simply untrue and with no historic reality. In the UN partition plan, to which the Jews agreed and the Arabs rejected choosing war instead, was earmarked to be "international" under the UN.
However, when Jordan was brutally bombarding Jerusalem's Holy city - nobody in the international community lifted a finger, nor uttered a word to defend Jerusalem's international status. So you see that internationalisation was made null and void by the UN silence + inaction & Britain's recognition of Jordan's illegal occupation of the Jerusalem for 19 years.
Israel's sovereignty in Jerusalem is not up for debate, and Jews are permitted to build in any part of the capital city, as are Arabs. Jerusalem was always Jewish and will always be theirs. It will never again be partitioned and divided.
Re your claim that you know anything about "the reality on the ground" is rejected by the fact that Arabs can buy housing in any part of Israel.

This racist state must be confronted.America is mostly to blame for the annual supply of billions of dollars to prop up this evil regime. The Palestinians are treated worse than animals. Israel must be made to listen or face the inevitable consequences that all crooked states eventually realise.

No USA President has the power to persuade Israel to take notice of what the President say.Israel is happy with the situation as it has been for the last 42 years.Beside the USA and the EU,who all are scared to condemn Israel, Now we are witnessing that even RUSSIA is coming under the influence of Israel.THE NEXT STEP IS a JEWISH President of the USA.

I once was a supporter of Israel and their cause - I hated the palestinians for doing all those senseless attacks on the common Israeli people. Today, although I still condem terrorist attacks done by palestenians, I see Israel as a terrorist state and I am so NOT a supporter of Israel but a supporter of Palestine.
Maybe and hopefully the Palestenians have learnt that the true success of their cause is by being battered by the Israeles - the tide is turning, Israel continues to loose allies with their actions.

"The United States has voiced dismay at previous Israeli building plans in and around Arab East Jerusalem......"
Yet the US continues to fund the terrorist govt of Israel. A govt that used illegal cluster bombs and White Phosphorous on Lebanes and Palestinian civilians. That stole 80% of the land of Palestinian people cause the Bible says so. And as if not enough, it controls and wants to take the 20% that's left

Jerusalem as a whole has never ever been recognised as the capital of Israel. The west part is earmarked to be the capital of Israel while the eastern part is designated to be the Palestinians' capital. Recently, the EU has proposed Jerusalem to be the capital of both Israel and Palestine.
You must also know that the reality on the ground is that palestinians simply cannot get permission to build homes in Jerusalem while their homes are being bulldozed.

Since when does a sovereign and independent country need permission to house its population?
Is the "land captured in a 1967" the same land that Jordan illegally occupied following an illegal invasion of a sovereign country (Israel) for 19 years?
Twisting history to fit one's prejudice does not wash!

Perhaps people will finally realise where the real obstacles to a final settlement in Palestine/Israel lie.
