Two Premier Class races, both on the 2,140m distance, and the Coronation Cup semi-finals for flat runners over 1,250m, were the main events of yesterday's programme at Marsa, the last one for the 2009 season.

In the first Premier Class event, Kain Poinfond, in its second outing in Malta and driven by Clint Vassallo, passed the post first. This trotter jumped into the lead some 400m away from the post and never looked back. Lajos Useful and Kosai L.J. were second and third behind the winner.

Ker Pellois, under the direction of James Briffa, emerged strongly out of a group of trotters midway through the straight for home to win the other Premier Class race ahead of Kimono Fleuri and Kelso Bricois.

The first Coronation Cup semi-final was a very interesting race.

At the post it was Louis Azzopardi's Montefiore that crossed the line first, half-a-length ahead of Lordswood. Mean Mr Mustard and Monashee Prince also qualified but the popular Managing Director failed to reach the final of the competition.

Charles Pace's mare Genievre shot into the lead in the final straight on its way to winning the other semi-final ahead of Johnny McGurk, Alassien and Danilo Pyrus.

The next meeting at Marsa is scheduled for January 10.
