No one was injured in a fire at Cafe Spinola in St Julian's this morning but the only neighbour who happened to be in was evacuated until the fire was controlled.
Barry Hardy, who lives next door, told timesofmalta.com the police knocked on his door at about 8 a.m. and asked him to get out because there was a fire and they still did not know if there were any gas cylinders inside. All the other neighbours were out.
Mr Hardy said that once the Civil Protection personnel were inside the smoke dissipated quite rapidly but the smell of smoke was still in his nostrils a couple of hours later.
The fire was controlled within minutes but the place was considerably damaged because of the smoke.
