New transport for Santa
Advert
Advert
Santa gave his reindeer a rest and made the most of today's weather going round with a convertible Opel to make sure he managed to distribute all gifts on time.
Reader James Spiteri captured the jolly old man racing down Malta's streets adding a bit of Christmas cheer to people of good will.

I shall refrain from commenting on Santa Claus's latest form of transport , and centre/concentrate on the actual purpose of the so called OUTER LANE . On this B'Kara by-pass road , on Christmas Day , I THANKED GOD that my wife and I and the other person/s ,WERE SPARED from a terrible Crash at the tal-Qroqq End Section. We had JUST started cruising along this road , on the outer lane as the Junction Haunch convergance dictates . On approaching the Mater Dei Hospital , I decided to take to the inner lane , I had just spotted a car gaining distance , and set the indicator..... . I was ALREADY entering the inner lane ,when to my dismay and in a split second I WAS IN TIME to swerve back and avoid by a whisker, ramming this other car OVERTAKING or rather UNDERTAKING US ,at excessive speed , on the INNER LANE !!!!!!!? Road regulations prohibit INNERLANE overtaking . In Italy this infringement ranks first in road fines , BUT regarded as "common practise" by many of my fellow drivers . I appeal to The Transport Authority to launch a Road Safety Campaign on this subject , ASAP.

' adding a bit of cheer to people of goodwill', by what has been written in the comments it seems that Santa should have started parading at least a week before to increase the people of godwill on ths island. Safety, hazard etc., pessimism seems to overtake the Xmas Spirit. WELL DONE SANTA hope to see you again next year.

Imma x'lanzit ta' lsien ghandu l-malti. Mhux ta' b'xejn kulhadd wiccu mqarras sar. Waqt xi elezzjoni hadd ma' jghid xejn meta kulhadd jixxabbat u jifrah talli tellghu il-gvern taghhom. Li kieku kien gest barrani minjaf kemm kontu tiggustawh ghax li jaghmel il-barrani kollox sew. Hekk sar il-Malti.

@ Mark Demicoli re: fast lane - your observation is quite a common misconception. In reality, this lane should be referred to as the 'outer lane'.
Quoting Wikipedia: A passing (outer) lane is often colloquially referred to as a fast lane because it is often used for extended periods of time for thru traffic or fast traffic. In theory, a passing lane should be used only for passing, thus allowing, even on a road with only two lanes in each direction, motorists to travel at their own pace. Good driving practice is to slip out of the passing lane once slower cars have been passed.

Oh its Christmas - lets not dampen our spirits with houghts about health & safety on the roads and elsewhere. After all, the police & emergency services have to earn their pay don't they?
We can always cry & moan AFTER an accident takes place, can't we?

Friendly Malta? The below comments seem to prove otherwise. I'm actually concerned at how much bitterness this country seems to have...

@Etienne Mangion - I don't see how you can call this a ""Real"" christmas spirit? this is the real christmas spirit you have been waiting for a long time?!?! OMG e
@Vince Debono - About the belt and safety issues you are 100% right but asking if the man was overtaking on the fast lane? Fast lane is not only for overtaking it is to go fast hence its name...doooh and from a still photograph how can you tell if he was going faster than the other cars on the left lane or not?!
People let just take these things as they are, things that can put a smile on your face in the morning! Stop being pessimistic, if you see your glass half empty, go to a tap and fill it up. Nice one Santa and opel driver but next time try being more safe and Santa at least wear a high visibility jacket no?! haha

To all those commentators who are worried of Santa’s safety and missing the spirit of the season, to be positive and look on the bright side of life and be merry.
Merry Christmas.

I don't see fun, I see Hazard warning lights misuse and the matter of the seat belt that other people have already pointed out. Was the driver really overtaking or was he hogging the outside lane?

What a show... ever considered working in a circus? The driver and his friend should be fined for being such a showoff without bearing minimum attention to their safety and that of others..

Nice idea! At least he kept the Christmas spirit :) I just hope that next time he would be more concerned about his safety.....But apart from that.....I liked the idea! Really original. It's about time people start having the REAL Christmas spirit!

An extremely bad example!!! should have been wearing a seat belt!!!
Woww!!! I see a belt!!! santa's belt not the car's seat belt!!!!!
shame on this person and most of all the driver should not have even allowed this act!
