Maltese sprint canoeist Christopher Camilleri was presented with a bronze award at the recent MOC Sports Awards 2009 held at the Grand Hotel Excelsior. His nomination came following his successful qualification for the Final B in the XVI Mediterranean Games held in Pescara, obtaining national records in both the 500m and 1000m canoe sprint events.

Mr Camilleri, an audit senior employed with Deloitte Malta, was congratulated and presented with a letter of commendation by Paul Mercieca, managing partner of Deloitte to mark this occasion.

"Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is an integral part of a career with Deloitte. Sport is something our firm takes seriously and encourages all staff members to pursue. We congratulate Chris on his award and augur the very best for his future," said Mr Mercieca.

In Malta, Deloitte supports staff who pursue sports initiatives such as the Annual BMW Marathon, organisation of internal football tournaments for male and female staff and table tennis tournaments, to name a few.

Mr Camilleri commented: "I would like to thank Deloitte for their continuous support that they have shown to allow me to be able to continue to practice canoeing while having a full-time job. By allowing me to realign my working hours I was able to continue to train during the winter months. For this I am truly grateful."
