Work has started on the widening and resurfacing of the 1km road to Ta' Pinu Church in Gozo.

The Gozo Ministry said this was part of a project which would also see the rebuilding of the Xlendi road.

The whole project, costing €9.48 million, will benefit from EU cohesion funds.

The ministry said that after the widening of Ta' Pinu road, new rubble walls would be built and street furniture would be installed.

Soil removed from the site would be used for an afforestation project at Isopu quarry in Nadur.

Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono visited the site and praised the progress of work.
