Fire in Paola house

An elderly woman escaped injury when the ground floor of her house in Carmel Street, Paola, caught fire yesterday evening.

A mattress caught fire and the flames spread quickly to other parts of the house, police sources said.

Two fire engines of the Civil Protection Department were on the scene and the blaze was controlled.

A burning candle is believed to have caused the fire.
