Announcer 'with golden voice' passes away
Liliana Bencini, a well known announcer on the former Redifussion (cable radio) service, passed away over the weekend.
A fellow broadcaster, Peter Paul Ciantar, paid tribute to her as an announcer "with a golden voice" who was admired by many.
"She was one of the best announcers in the Rediffusion days" Mr Ciantar said, adding that he had learnt a lot from her.
Ms Bencini also used to present a classical musical programme - Il-Kompozitur tal-gimgha - with Mr Ciantar.
"In her many years at Rediffusion, she impressed with her dedication, and with the clarity of her voice over cable radio," Mr Ciantar said.

Mrs Bencini happened to be the daughter of "IS SUR GIANN BENCINI" founder of the only Amateur footballclub in the MFA LEAGUE.She often used to accompany her dad to watch the amateurs play and kept contact with the club after her father passed away.This is the second loss to the club in less then a month following the death of the long serving ex secretary Ronnie Tabone.May they both rest in peace.

When one of the old guard at Rediffusion passes away, another piece of our history goes with her. May she rest in peace and may the Good Lord award her for the many good deeds she left to us.

Dearest Liliana, it is so sad to hear that you are gone. In you I lost a friend and a mentor. I was so young when I joined rediffusion, you taught me so much and you turned me into a responsible announcer. May you rest in peace Liliana. Thank you for your generosity.

Without doubt Liliana was one of the best old-timers in broadcasting. Coming from a family which produced great local sportsmen, Liliana was always talking sport and it was a great pleasure working with her. Especially during these festive moments when Rediffusion was a hub of activites with Ring Us Up programmes. Condolences to the Bencini family

Goodbye Liliana. A most attentive and likeable announcer of the old days. Liliana was one of my announcers when I was appointed Head of Programmes at Redffusion. She was always a respectful and yet jovial person loved by all her colleagues.
