To acknowledge the successful participation of Gozitan students at the fifth edition of the European Youth Meeting held in Bologna, Italy, between November 24 and 28, Victoria mayor Samuel Azzopardi pre-sented them with certificates at the Banca Giuratale in Victoria.
Students and educators from 27 European countries discussed various topics including equality and solidarity, dignity and freedom and citizens' rights and justice. At the end of the workshops draft proposals were sent to the respective EU institutions.
The Gozitan team, made up of Josmar Saliba, Nicholas Vella, Mark Grech and Joseph Caruana and led by Sir Michelangelo Refalo Institute assistant head Daniel James Cassar, left its mark when its proposal on equality and solidarity was chosen by popular vote from all students present.
Mr Caruana, who led the Gozo group, was chosen to deliver the final draft of the proposal at the Emilia Romagna Legislative Assembly's auditorium, which was attended by more than 300 students and 60 educators.
Dr Azzopardi, who took the intitiative to include Gozo in a network of European regions that regularly organises youth conferences and other activities in European cities, thanked the students for their strong sense of commitment and enthusiasm shown during the meeting.
Parents, council members and the head and assistant head of Sir Michelangelo Refalo Institute attended the presentation.
