Yellow Pages' participation in the fifth edition of the Environmental Award for Industry has seen it walk away with an honourable mention for the Conservation Award for Sustainable Development.
This is Yellow Pages' second nomination to date in appreciation for the time and effort dedicated to collecting old Yellow Pages directories for recycling.
The Environmental Award for Industry, presented every two years by the Cleaner Technology Centre, recognises and promotes Maltese organisations with a significant contribution to sustainable development in our country.
It highlights the policies, practices and processes of businesses and other organisations that are helping achieve economic and social development while minimising the environmental impact of their operations. The awards cover three categories: management award for sustainable development; conservation award for sustainable development; and environment protection initiative award for SMEs.
Winners in each category are awarded a specially commissioned trophy by Mdina Glass and a certificate. Winners of the first category are assisted to compete in the European Environment Award programme, run by the DG Environment of the European Commission.
Yellow Pages participated in the Sustainable Development category, as it had done in the previous edition of the awards in 2007, when it also landed the same award for the same accomplishment.
Yellow Pages' distribution and mapping manager Nicholas Diacono said, "We applied for the category we felt fits best within our efforts towards environmental issues."
The awards were presented on December 10.
