Winners of Ggantija design contest announced

Architect Robert Sant has won a contest for a design to enhance the visitor experience at Ġgantija Heritage Park.

His design was selected from among 12 submissions which included two foreign entries, as well as another two entries involving a joint venture between Maltese and foreign consultants.

Heritage Malta said the designs by Prof Alex Torpiano (TBA Periti) Martin Xuereb (Martin Xuereb & Associates and Politecnica Soc. Coop. - Firenze) were runners up.

This Design Contest forms part of the €9.2 million Archaeological Heritage Conservation Project, 85% of which is co-financed through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

It includes works on the Tarxien Temples, the Ġgantija Heritage Park in Xaghra, Gozo, and the St. Paul's Catacombs in Rabat, Malta.

An exhibition of the Design contest entries will be held at the Ministry for Gozo St Francis Square, Victoria between December 23 and January 12.

It will also be held at Heritage Malta's Head Office, Merchant's Street, Valletta between the January 18 and February 21.
