An ambitious San Ġiljan ASC, led by new club president Daniel Aquilina, recently presented their new signings in a players' meeting which formally heralded a new campaign and the squad's commencement of training ahead of the 2010 competitive season.

In a statement, San Ġiljan ASC said training will be under the guidance of new coach Pierre Borg, the former Malta national team mentor.

The acquisitions of the explosive Edward Aquilina, from Sliema, and that of Karl Galea, the former Neptunes centre, have added experience and quality to an already competitive side.

San Ġiljan have also secured the services of promising youngsters Rainer Scerri and Kai Dowling. Goalkeeper Dean Camilleri and Matthew Zammit have been confirmed as captain and vice-captain respectively.

German goal-getter

For next summer, San Ġiljan have also announced the signing of 2009 Serie A1 top-scorer Heiko Nossek, of Germany, and confirmed Italian coach Marco Risso to partner Borg.

Dr Aquilina replaces Brian Schembri who decided to step down after nine years at the helm, the statement added.

Schembri will continue to give his valuable contribution to the club.

Meanwhile, former team captain John Xerri de Caro, who has now retired from the game, will also continue to assist the club in the role of team manager.
