The Malta Rugby Football Union (MRFU) will benefit from another two years of Cisk Lager sponsorship following an agreement reached with Simonds Farsons Cisk plc recently.

Rugby was still a little-known sport on the island when Cisk Lager and the MRFU started their partnership. Following the national team's outstanding results on the international scene, and the hard work put in by the MRFU, rugby is now a popular sport that is eagerly followed by increasing enthusiastic crowds.

The deal is also a clear indication of the long-term commitment of Cisk Lager to local sport and rugby in particular, a statement said.

"Rugby has made significant inroads in the local sports scene over the last few years, and Cisk Lager is proud to be associated with this success and, of course, with the national team," Marco Debono, Brand Executive for Cisk Lager, was quoted as saying.

Cisk also supports rugby at club level through its sponsorship of Kavallieri and Birkirkara Alligators.

Martin Galea, president of the MRFU, said that the constant support of sponsors is the foundation of the extraordinary achievements of the Maltese rugby community.

"It is only through the steadfast support of Cisk Lager and other sponsors that we continue as a national entity," he said.

The national rugby team is currently ranked no.54 by the International Rugby Board and is third in Division 2B in the European Nations Cup.

The team won their latest home match against Sweden last month in a thrilling and exciting finale.

The next international match is on April 17 when Malta play The Netherlands away. Malta then host Latvia a week later.
