Thousands of objections to VAT, income-tax assessments so far this year

To date this year, the VAT Department has received 1,137 objections to its assessments, and 810 to income-tax assessments.

There are still 176 cases still pending at VAT, but the global number of objections still with the Department of Inland Revenue is 1,837.

Also to date this year, the VAT Department has generated a total of €8,295,793.45 in fines, €333,282.02 of which have already been paid.

The information was given by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech in reply to parliamentary questions by Labour MP Noel Farrugia.
