"Up in the Air," starring George Clooney as a man who fires people for a living, earned six Golden Globe nominations, including best drama and best actor for Clooney.
"The musical "Nine," garnered five nominations, including one for best musical or comedy.
The soon-to-be-released science-fiction action adventure "Avatar" -- from director James Cameron -- received four nominations.
Also nominated-- veteran actor Morgan Freeman for his role playing Nelson Mandela in the just-released "Invictus" and Sandra Bullock for the critically-acclaimed football film "The Blind Side."
The Golden Globes are given out in January by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and are seen as a key indicator of which movies will compete for the world's top film honors, the Oscars, in March.
