Four Maltese weightlifters have just returned from England after taking part in the London Championships which were held at the Crystal Palace Sports Centre.
Emmanuel Schembri is currently in his build-up for next year's Commonwealth Games in India. He boosted his preparations with a national record - an overall 266kgs - and a second placing in his category.
Rodmar Pulis, the youngest competitor in the championships, distinguished himself with three lifts in Snatch for a personal best of 68kgs. He added 79kgs in Clean and Jerk for an overall 147kgs.
Clive Zammit did well in the 69kg category. He lifted 162kgs and finished fourth in his class.
In the 94kgs category, Stephen Borg produced lifts of 90kgs (snatch) and 121kgs (clean and jerk). He was classified 18th from an entry of 40 weightlifters.
During their stay in London, all four Maltese lifters had training sessions which were conducted by Crystal Palace coach Keith Morgan who also had the English and Dutch national teams under his charge earlier in his career.
Malta Weightlifting Association officials Jesmond Caruana and Mark Pirotta also attended the London Championships.
Focus now shifts to the local scene and the National Championships which will be held on Sunday at the Cottonera Sports Complex.
