The Local Government Department is currently investigating nine cases of alleged abuses involving local councils.
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said the investigations are over:
Allegations that Luqa council is adding new payments to the lists which have already been approved;
Reports that Mosta council issued a call for tenders for architectural services which may be discriminatory;
Complaints by the GRTU over the granting of a refuse collection tender by Pembroke council;
Complaints by the GRTU on the granting of a tender for the emergency collection of refuse by St Julians Council;
Allegations of arbitrary decisions by the Mayor of Zebbug (Gozo) in issuing orders without prior council approval;
Complaints about direct orders to a particular person by Zebbug (Gozo) Council;
Complaints by the GRTU that Zurrieq council is to engage a refuse collector who is not suitably equipped;
A complaint about the method of selection used for the appointment of the secretary at Cospicua local council.
