Baby Jesus snatchers strike again
Stolen twice in as many years
Mary and Joseph 'stare' at the vacant manger after the image of Baby Jesus was stolen from a roadside crib on Manwel Dimech Bridge for the second time in as many years.
A spokesman for Environmental Landscape Consortium, which put up the crib, said that it was during a routine inspection on Sunday that the loss was noted.
The inspections started after last year's incidents when a Bambin in Floriana and a statue of Mary on Manwel Dimech Bridge disappeared a few days before Christmas. They were not recovered.

@ Charles Muscat:
The punishment would be the same as in other cases of theft or vandalism.

Charles Muscat, a thief, once caught, is punished by due process. However, and I say this as a secularist, people who do bad things wilfully need not be sent to hell. Their life IS a living hell. Always conniving, always looking over their shoulders, their small mind always thinking of the next evil act they would like to commit. Who needs the hell of fire when they condemn THEMSELVES to a life of this kind. A social worker might help but such people choose their life-script and stick with it. Hopeless cases. A living hell in fact. And we don't need to lift a finger. Just catch them and process them. An earthly punishment. But the self-imposed one is much, much worse. Evil begets evil. In other words, evil is its own retribution. A swimming in one's own cesspool. What a life! Food for thought.

Eric Soames, What panishment would you impose if the cctv caught the thief? Surely you can't send the thief to hell.

Well, if it's already happened last year, are the people at the ELC hoping that it won't happen again (...and again...?) Why didn't they fasten it to the manger, or even to the floor, as well as a small CCTV, why not. Desperate times call for desperate measures, since there are some persons who resort to such antics.

Charles Muscat: No joke, a camera wouldn't be for the statue but to catch a thief!

Has baby Jesus been snatched from our hearts too? What type of Christmas are we celebrating? Is this event representative of our way of life? Should we leave this crib without a baby Jesus? I wonder.

if we read what Jesus said in His New testament, there will never be a vacant place for Him, in our hearts, peace and health

Why not install cctv cameras?
