62-year-old hospitalised after accident
Photo: John Portelli
A 62-year-old man from San Gwann has been hospitalised but is not in a critical condition following a traffic accident in Triq is-Salini, Naxxar.
The man was driving a Honda towards Salini from Naxxar when he lost control as soon as he got to a bend in the road and crashed into a Toyota Starlet, driven by a 45-year-old from Gharghur coming from the opposite direction.

@R MArquette
you forgot to add the factor of the quality of our asphalt / tarmac... a bit of rain and its slippery, a bit of sun, and its slippery also.... cars can not get sufficient traction when turning.

well said n gauci. 10 out of 10. Sometimes it is ridicolous ... some drivers are driving on the outside lane at 50km/h which is already very slow then when they arrive next to a speed camera they drop down to 20km/h or so. You wouldn't believe it unless you see it.

I'm a young driver and I've got 3 year probation on my licence. I still remember all the laws and regulations I studied to get the licence, so why elderly drivers don't get re-tested? I do get frustrated by their reckless driving!!!

A note for everyone, pls stop driving slowly on the fast lane(right side of the road). If you feel like driving slow go ahead, but do not obstruct the fast lane or other drivers who might be in a hurry in case of single lanes. By doing so it only helps to make others tense and edgy and this can cause accidents. Many times we find a crane, truck or simply a careless driver blocking the rest at 30-40km/h, and overtaking them becomes dangerous especially when you have to do so in the slow lane. Police should be fining these drivers just like those overspeeding.
another thing, when you approach a speed camera, you don't need to abruptly and dangerously go down to 40km/h, in most cases 60km/h will be just fine.

Yes, i'm a young driver and always had turbo powered cars in my possession and never caused such accidents! my main point below was because the public always generalises and blames us young drivers! I totally agree with you that both cars in the below accident do not have any signs of total loss however PLEASE do explain how can a prudently driven car loose control in such a way, ending on the pavement on the other side of the road in such a lovely weather. Also, my last point but not least: i'd bet that if a young driver was coming from the opposite direction he would have taken all the blame. Ghalhekk f'dal-pajjiz qatt ma nimxu il-quddiem!

@R Marquette
the cars involved in this accident do not have any signs of total loss and both drivers did not suffer life threatening injuries. In the other two separate accidents, two innocent people died and another 19yr old (yet again on a high powered cycle) is fighting for his life after having overtaken a vehicle. There is a difference between losing control as a result of reckless driving and losing control while driving prudently. I hope that yourself being a young driver really get the message!

We can write as many blogs as we care to, as nobody out there who is responsible and could make a difference gives a toss, they only care about votes and not people’s lives !

While not implying that any of the recent accidents were alcohol related i urge the police to have zero tolerance with regard to "drink and drive".
