Frank Salt Investments Ltd is offering, for the sixth year running, a €2,500 cash award to the person/s or organisation, who stand out among other competitors.

The adjudicating committee, comprising Martin Scicluna (chairman), Maurice de Giorgio, Philip Farrugia Randon, Mario Tabone and Frank Salt, have no mean feat to reach a unanimous decision on who truly merits the environment prize this year.

Environment encompasses a vast range of topics and is a sector that is becoming much more relevant to everyone's daily life. There is much more awareness about living on a cleaner planet and possibly limiting the damage already done over the centuries, whether it's pollution, marine life or health. Cash and a certificate of appreciation will be presented to the winners by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi next month.

Frank Salt, whose firm is the driving force behind this award, said "the objective is to recognise collective efforts that often go unnoticed. This award also serves as a means of rewarding and promoting further the good work achieved through the winner's endeavours in a particular sector and enhance the standards we are accustomed to."

Past winners of this award were the Gaia Foundation for environment (2004); M.J. Publications for the book Momento Mori (2005); Prof. Alex Manche for national pride (2006); Janatha Stubbs for philanthropic work (2007); and Voices for the arts (2008).

The winners will be announced shortly.
