Malta has condemned the bombings that killed 127 people and wounded hundreds in Baghdad on Tuesday.

Foreign Affairs Minister Tonio Borg said: "The objective of these attacks is clearly to undermine the process of political stabilisation in Iraq and to cause the violence there to further escalate."

Dr Borg said that, at this stage, progress in the Middle East country was even more of an issue, highlighting the Iraqi Parliament's recent agreement on an election law as something which "paves the way for free, democratic elections in Iraq".

"Together with our European partners, we will continue to support Iraq on its difficult journey to a peaceful and democratic order," Dr Borg concluded.
