German woman dies in Ghajnsielem accident

I also being an Ghajnsielem resident am fed up with the ever increasing number of speed kings that travel on our busy roads. They only seek to create an enormous amount of unnecessary noise and disturbance and drive at excessive speeds which could be prevented if the authorities were even slightly interested in enforcing the laws which we are meant to abide by. Another death may have been prevented. May she rest in peace.

As an Ghajnsielem resident, I am continually dismayed by the shocking speeds and (non-indicated) moves between lanes that I witness on the first stretch of 'track' up the hill from Gozo Channel, slowed only by the necessity to negotiate the roundabout before accelerating again through the Mgarr Road part of the village, and up to the old Heliport junction... Off-road bikes, quad bikes, souped-up cars... Weekly, they all use the marvellous Eu-funded stretch of road surface as a means of testing their vehicle, it seems.

Whilst not suggesting that this was the case in this tragic incident, perhaps it does serve to highlight the need for (a) speed cameras or (b) simple old traffic police/wardens, who actually enforce the law.

My condolences both to the victim's family and to the driver and their family, whose Christmas will now also be ruined.

There is absolutely no cause for debate on driving and safety standards in the Maltese islands.
We know because nothing ever happens to change that point of view.
It is "gods will" ... allegedly
