Circus files third libel suit
A company representing an Italian circus has filed a third libel suit, this time against a parliamentary secretary and the editor of the Nationalist Party daily newspaper.
JS Productions Ltd, acting on behalf of Circo Fantasy, has already filed two separate libel suits against TV personality Moira Delia and the Director General of the Education Directorate, Micheline Sciberras.
The company claims that Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly and Community Mario Galea, writing in In-Nazzjon, alleged that animals in the circus were kept in hellish conditions, implying that they were cruelly treated.
The company said it represented the only circus in the country and these comments were intended to damage its reputation. Mr Galea writes a weekly column called Bħaċ-Ċirasa. The company also filed the suit against the editor of the paper, Alex Attard.
It is holding both responsible for damages.
This latest libel suit came after the circus's arrival in Malta spurred 20 animal rights organisations to hold a symbolic protest against cruelty to animals on Thursday.
Lawyers Sharon Mizzi and Gianfranco Gauci signed the suit.

It's pretty obvious to me that this circus is nothing but a big flop. Otherwise these people wouldn't be panicking and dishing out libel suits to anyone who oppses them. U halluna J.S productions !!!!!!

Your point should be picked up by those being sued. It's called 'MINERVA' rarely used, but unless the Circus (or anyone ) has any assets left on the island, incase their libel suit fails and they have to cover costs or even counter claims, then the case should not proceed. But the defendant must apply for this MINERVA before the case is heard. In Italy its different rules so they may not be aware.
Anyone that treats animals cruel to earn a living would be expected to bully anyone else and just move on - hopefully the Maltese won't put up with this bullying, we are not ANIMALS (in case they have not noticed).
Can sort out our brave Hunters too whilst at it, they dont treat animals bad, they just kill them and stuff them.

If any one has any doubt on this circus, type Circo Fantasy in a search engine. I did it with google.com.mt and with blackle.com and surprise surpise look what is being said in this website. It is the 2 or third one in the search results....

99% it will be sued as well since it's probably telling the truth or at least an educated opinion...

Animals are God’s creatures and they are to be protected. Humans are sometimes coward, using voiceless and innocent creatures for their purpose.
Proment people, Hon. Mario Galea, Parlamentary Secretary, Ms. Moira Delia T.V. Presenter and Ms. Micheline Sciberras DG of the Edu Directorate have been taken to court simply because they disagree with the torture of animals.
We are suppose to be a democratic country! We can criticize the President, the Prime Minister and the Ministers but not the circus!
I extend my full support to Hon. Mario Galea, Ms. Moira Delia and Ms. Micheline Sciberras for their courage to speak up. I fully support their claim.
Thank you for the courage of speaking up.
They will be taken to court, let us support them.

Whilst I will not go into who is right or who is wrong.... I remember as a child, reading anything about ANY circus...included animals. Having animals at the circus was ITS mark. What really worries me, is that in seeing it from the animal activists' point of view, I get nudged into seeing a much darker side: and that is the HUMAN circus......
The circus....reflects LIFE itself, only the *actors* are different......

God's gift of companionship??...what a load of tosh! Animals, especially the exotic variety used in circuses are an integral part of food chains and ecosystems. They are not a commodity for us to make money off. That is what ultimately ticks me off with these circus, the arrogance displayed by people over less powerful creatures. Disgusting!
People need to start looking below the surface...some say these animals are bred in captivity...have JS prooved that? If so I am not aware of it....Just look at the millions earned on poaching dolphins for aquariums and 'swim with dolphins' programs. JS if you want us to believe circuses are not cruel..proove it instead of shooting libels left right and centre.
Battistino; you are right about the dog/cat shows, but more because of the way we are modifying physical features; playing god, which results in numerous genetic diseases. watch BBC's 'pedigree dogs exposed' here:

However due to the dwindling numbers of some of these species in the wild , I see the circus issue as being more urgent.

The clue is in the word DOMESTICATED!!!

and tell me if these are not glorified circuses also ! but no..they are shows and so acceptable !!
cats kept in a cage.........
horses at command.........
dogs are keep on a leash, held up tight so that they stay straight, are given sweets to comply with orders, are made to run round for the applause of the audience and the judgement of the judge....
and these dogs are kept in captivity when they should be running about in the wild ! ...... or are domesticated horses, cats and dogs not animals equal to other animals...reminds me of Animal Farm : all animals are equal but some are more equal then others !
As long as there is independent unannounced inspections, the animal is God's gift of companionship to the human and in the right conditions, it can be also entertainment......but do not generalise...if some persons show cruelty, then it doesn't mean all humans are cruel....and I hope that whoever condemed this circus had had a look at it before speaking out against it...or maybe they shot from the hip ?

This matter is like making a mountain out of a molehill. I am utterly against cruelty to animals but these animals are bred in captivity from their birth, so if they are let free, there will be predators ready to welcome them!. On the other hand, is it cruelty to train an animal? If in the affirmative, it can be considered cuelty to the human being for studying hard to get a warrant from university, or to train vehemently to acquire the deisred result in sports. Finally, I am not rich enough to see these kind of animals in their own habitat, so the circus will at least let me enjoy the beauty of these creatures at close proximity without danger.

I do not know what animals this circus has, however I remember seeing horses. dogs. elephants, chimpanzees, in circuses, the dogs and chimps were kept as you keep your pet, the horses have more room than the horses kept at the race track. the elephants were kept no worse than most working elephants and looked after better than most, even zoos do not have very large enclosures considering there size of the animal. perhaps before you criticize this or any other circus
you need to see for yourself how they keep their animals and how zoos keep theirs.

It would be ideal if all the libel cases are heard before our courts before the circus leaves the island!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope springs eternal.

Animal circuses are slowly being banned all around the world. One day malta will ban them too. It's just a matter of there being enough educated people so that legislation will pass due to the majority.
In the meantime all we can do is try to educate the uneducated and show them why circuses are cruel. Should they choose to go anyway that is their decision for the time being. If they get cheap thrills from watching beautiful creatures tortured then so be it. One day that mentality will die.

Bravo Circo Fantasy and JS Production... not only are you keeping animals cooped in up cages in a cruel and outdated practice but you are joining several other bodies in Malta who seem to regard abusing libel laws to try as a way of gagging free speech. The law must be reformed to stop fair comment from being silenced.

And the circus saga goes on .
Let me start by saying that I'm a big animal lover, have always been and always will be. I would never go to a circus nor take my children nor let them go if their school was going to take them .
However let me just say this . We have to be tolerant towards others. This applies to all except the strict vegans . We are saying here that animals are being maltreated because they are kept in cages. Now all people who eat meat know that animals farmed for food are kept in very confined conditions with very limited space to move, given antibiotics and other stuff and then slaughtered for us to eat .
So before we all point our fingers, let us just stop and think .

If you intend to sue all of us who believe and are not afraid to say that circuses with animals are cruelty, you should employ a law firm on full time basis
