Another reason not to build a marina
I found the story in Saturday's The Times entitled Rough Sea Pounds Marsalforn very interesting and I certainly liked the photograph from Allan Green. Above is a photograph I took myself of Ħondoq Bay taken on a rough and windy day in October when the sea in Marsalforn was similarly rough. I think this goes to prove why any idea of building a marina at Ħondoq is totally out of the question. Even on such a day the sea at Ħondoq is still calm enough for swimming.

A home or a house is a the name of a building which houses a family but the same house could become a brothel if it entertains non residents in a well known manner. The same applies to Bays which welcomes boats, there is a time when the large density berthing makes a bay, a brothel, to boats.

@Mr Tyrrell .You have explained this in a very informative way to Mr Steele
.Thank you for your on going interest in Gozo and also Hondoq as you seem to be very familiar with the area

@James Tyrrell.Thank you for your explanation James--I find the proposition of a marina at Hondoq totally alien in such a lovely unspoilt(so far) area.I wonder what the future holds for the redundant desalination plant that has become an even bigger eyesore now?

@Derek Steele. The reasoning Derek is simple. If you build a marina it will have a surrounding wall for protection from rough seas. At least that's how all the marinas in Ireland are built. So it doesn't really matter how calm or rough the sea is in a particular area because if the boats can negotiate the sea they will find shelter in the marina.
The case for not building a marina at Hondoq is even simpler. The whole idea of places like Hondoq is to attract visitors such as swimmers and divers and as you know Gozo is a well-known attraction throughout the world for both activities. Hondoq has been a meeting place for Gozitans, Maltese and tourists for generations for the simple reason that it is a beautiful calm and clear place to swim even when it is rough elsewhere on the island.
The point is Derek you can create a Marina practically anywhere but what you can't do is re-create nature. I saw plans in October to turn this area into a beautiful nature park for everyone to enjoy. That's the way to go here Derek.

Perhaps I am missing something here but reasoning not to build a marina due to the sea being calm enough to swim in even on rough days is beyond my comprehension. Please explain.
