National airline Air Malta has sold its millionth ticket from its website www.airmalta.com.

The site was launched in April 2007.

This was said by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech during the presentation of the Air Malta Worker of the Year Award won by Claudine Debattista.

Mr Fenech praised Air Malta's investment and said that the airline was to continue facing challenges next year, increasing its flights to the German, French and Italian markets by 10 per cent.

The airline was introducing nine new flights to these markets a week with a capacity to carry 75,000 more tourists from these countries to Malta. Next summer, it was also going to launch operations to two new destinations in Italy - Turin and Genoa.
