An extravagance by the aristocracy
While the rabble struggle to cope with the cost of living, sweat to pay their water and electricity bills and have to do with under-staffed and inefficient public hospitals, the aristocracy treats itself to a costly week-long spree celebrating the refurbishment of a square. Let them eat cake.

@ Grech. This festa is nothing compared to what Austin Gatt's ministry spent last year on publicity for his 100-project for the Grand Harbour where allajbierek they forgot us since the elections. The same sort of thing for the publicity to try to convince us that the Piano Plans are the best thing that has ever happened to Valletta and Malta.
Also, don't forgot the 1.8million euros he is going to spend on 'a bridge to no-where' at the breakwater, and then where St Angelo needs at least 2.8m for only basic repairs the are going to spend only 1.8 m. Il-veru kas ta' getting your priorities right!
Let them eat cake exactly. Also obviously many of them think "l-etat cest moi"

"Let them eat cake" says Michael Grech to which I reply "Not by bread alone".
