A migrant from the Darfour region in Sudan was remanded in custody today after having been accused of association with others in Malta and abroad to facilitate the illegal arrival or departure of people in Malta.

The man, Adam Hasan Mohammed Khemis, 57, a resident of Hal Far open centre, was arraigned a day after three migrants said they paid €850 each for assistance to leave Malta. They raised the matter with the police when their arrangements failed.

Mr Khemis is being held at Corradino prisons.
