Valletta completed the list of quarter-finalists of the National League 100 Anniversary Cup this evening after beating Vittoriosa Stars at the Centenary Stadium.

Ian Zammit was the catalyst for Valletta’s passage into the last eight as the striker scored a hat-trick to celebrate his 23rd birthday in style. The Citizens, who demolished Gozo FC 7-0 in the third round, opened the scoring after 20 minutes, Zammit tapping the ball home from close range after Stefan Giglio had flicked Kevin Sammut’s cross into his path.

Zammit all but sealed Valletta’s qualification when, with five minutes of the second half gone, he scored with another tap-in after Henry Bonello, the Vittoriosa goalkeeper, failed to hold Dyson Falzon’s strong header.

The young City forward capped a productive outing with a third goal five minutes from the end, this time with a header from Gilbert Agius’s free-kick.
