A Pole, Wiezik Waldemar, 50, this afternoon pleaded guilty in court to having collided with a motorcycle while driving his car on the coast road yesterday, and then driving off.
The incident happened early yesterday afternoon, injuring motorcyclist Kurt Caruana, 20, of Iklin.
Mr Waldemar also admitted to having driven his Kia Pride in a dangerous manner.
Taking the witness stand, Mr Caruana said that he had been driving down the hill towards Bugibba when he saw Mr Waldenmar's car in a side road close to the speed camera. Then as he approached, the Kia Pride came out of the side road and turned towards St Julians, despite signage prohibiting a right turn.
He said he could not remember the speed at which he was driving, but he suddenly found himself on the road. The Pole stopped his car and asked him if everything was okay. He told him to call the wardens, but the Pole left.
At this point Mr Waldemar asked the Magistrate to speak. He then turned to the victim and said he wanted to apologise for his mistakes. He insisted that he did stop, but then he did not know what happened.
Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia told the court that the accused had cooperated with the police.
Mr Waldemar, who is a marine engineer who lives on a boat, was remanded in custody until judgement tomorrow.
