The Pens That Felled The Mighty - 100 years Of British Cartoons On Malta is a new book by John Manduca and Joseph Sammut.

The book is a slice of Malta's rich history as depicted in 100 years of cartoons and caricatures published in Britain. It contains 125 cartoons and caricatures by world famous artists.

The book was launched last Friday at Simonds Farsons Cisk Brewery, Mrieħel. Historian Henry Frendo said: "The book is entertaining as it is instructive. Entertaining, with ample doses of the British sense of humour. Instructive, because of insights and perceptions, however satirical or lop-sided, concerning goings on when Malta was in the news."

The book is divided into seven parts: The Unsettled 1930s (Italo-Abyssinian War; World War II - The George Cross and the Roosevelt Citation; Integration with Britain; Closure of British Base - Mintoff's dispute with Britain; The Bush-Gorbachev Summit - The beginning of the end of the Cold War?; Vanity Fair caricatures - Governors and Naval Commanders in Malta; and Miscellaneous and 19th century. Each episode is illustrated by relevant cartoons and sketches.

The book is published by Miller Distributors Ltd and printed by Gutenberg Press. It is sponsored by the Farsons Foundation.
