Property owners wronged by both parties

I act on behalf of the Grech family - the owners of the house in Sta Venera being used as a Labour Party club.

I refer to a letter by Labour President Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi (Property Requisitioned By A PN Government, December 5) where he points out that it was a Nationalist government which issued the requisition order and that my clients have not requested the eviction of the tenants in the lawsuit which they instituted before the Constitutional Court, implying that my clients are not objecting to the tenancy imposed upon them.

This is definitely not the case. My clients have instituted other legal proceedings requesting eviction.

They have been contesting the tenancy for more than 30 years, even though the rent laws make

it very difficult for them to exert their rights. Unfortunately for my clients, they have been caught up in the mud-slinging battle between the PL and the PN, where both parties try to make each other look bad.

My clients have been wronged by both of them. By the PN, which dispossessed them of the property and refuses to legislate to safeguard the owners of clubs, and by the PL, which continues to squat in their property. To date, neither have made a move to rectify their actions.
