There are currently six parastatal entities that still owe the Internal Revenue Department money on national insurance and income tax relative to their workforce. The totals due were €549,582 in national insurance contributions and €601,544 in income tax, dating back to 1998 and subsequent years.

Finance Minister Tonio Fenech, answering a parliamentary question by Labour MP Leo Brincat, said that none of the companies had availed itself of existing repayment programmes.

The government could not provide information on arrears owed by its own entities, because the payment of income tax and national insurance contributions was different to those in the case of employers generally.
