There are many traditional decorations that adorn our homes at Christmas; the tree, ornaments, bells and, of course, the Christmas wreath. This guide will take you through the process of making your own Christmas wreath.
The first thing you need to do is get together the 2 main things that go to make up your Christmas wreath. These are a wreath ring and florist wire. You can these really cheaply from any florist. Once you have the size of ring that you want and the wire, its time for the vegetation.
Take a walk around the park, or your garden. If you go further afield, take a bag and scissors with you; make sure that you get plenty though, it's better to have too much than too little. Choose some evergreen foliage as well as some with colour. Anything you like really, this is your creation and you will know what looks good together. A few sprigs of holly always look good in a wreath, and bring a dash of seasonal colour to the finished article.
If you can get hold of some seedpods and twigs, that's even better. These can be sprayed silver or gold a few days in advance, and look stunning in a wreath. Now it's time to start creating your wreath. This is will be built up in several layers so don't worry if there are bare patches, they will be filled in as you go. Get a bit of wire and fasted round the end of a piece of foliage, now attach it to the ring in the same way. Work your way around the outside of the ring first, then the inside, then the middle. The key is to make sure that your foliage is secure, whether it's attached directly to the ring, or another piece of wire.
When your ring is completely covered in foliage, it's time to add the finishing touches. This is when you add the holly, or berries, or anything that you have sprayed in advance. Fashion a hook out of a few pieces of wire and you're finished.
Congratulations, you've created a beautiful Christmas wreath for very little money, but you've had a whole lot of fun making it.
