Robin Gibb pays tribute to war dead

Bee Gees star Robin Gibb laid a wreath at the Air Forces Memorial in Floriana yesterday and urged young people to appreciate the freedom they were enjoying thanks to the sacrifices of those who died in the war.

Robin Gibb is well-known for his efforts to encourage the young to honour the war dead. He recently released a single called We Will Remember Them and as president of the Heritage Foundation is working in the UK for the building of a memorial to dead aircrew of Bomber Command. Mr Gibb asked to lay a wreath at the memorial in Malta in view of the role the island played in World War II. He was joined at the Air Forces Memorial by Heritage Fund vice-president Mike Read and officials from Maltese ex-servicemen associations.

Mr Gibb was in Malta to receive an International Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of the Bee Gees at the Malta Music Awards held last Saturday at the MFCC, Ta' Qali.
