The Armed Forces of Malta have received €4 million worth of military hardware equipment from the Italian Military Mission in Malta during a symbolic ceremony at Silver Citybarracks, Pembroke.

The equipment includes light to medium transport vehicles like staff cars, ambulances, coaches and off-road troop carrier vans and also heavy plant machinery, including bulldozers, excavators, cranes and large tipper trucks.

Also donated were spare part supplies and kit items related to combat engineering, radio communications, anti-nuclear-biological-chemical warfare and maritime workshop equipment, which will all go a long way in supporting the AFM's roles, operations and duties.

During the ceremony, a Land Rover off-road vehicle had its Italian military registration number plate symbolically removed by Colonel Rocco Vastola, commanding officer of the Italian Military Mission in Malta, and a new AFM registration plate mounted by AFM commander, Brigadier Carmel Vassallo.
