This race was quite entertaining as Inkato led for most of the distance. However, half-a-lap from home Inkato was overtaken by Arnie Sensation. It looked as though this favourite trotter was on its way to victory but Lajos Useful, driven by Anthony Bartolo, made a last frantic surge to finish first followed by Socrates.
A strong finish in the straight for home enabled Mark Desira's Lover Boy Index to win the first Gold Class race of the programme as Onassis Kemp and Hawkeye De Marco entered second and third respectively.
Emil Brebro was first in the other Gold event but was disqualified and victory was awarded to Excelsior DK (Charles Camilleri).
Energy Launcher and Mr Playstation were second and third in this race.
In the first event on the card, veteran Raymond Clifton drove Internet to victory after overcoming Verdi Broline at the very last few metres of the race.
A final duel in the Silver race, between debutant Aces Americ (Paul Bonello) and O'Haras Arrow, ended with the former winning the honours by a narrow margin.
The next meeting at Marsa is scheduled for tomorrow, starting at 1.30 p.m.
