Multiculturalism on campus
An event promoting multiculturalism, entitled Ice 2009, will be held on Wednesday from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. at the KSU Common Room (next to the canteen at Students House).
The event will include a debate on the proposed banning of crucifixes from schools by a panel consisting of a representative from the Ministry of Education, Labour MP Evarist Bartolo, ex-AD leader Harry Vassallo, Edward Demicoli from the EC Representation Office in Malta, and Fr David Muscat.
There will also be a series of ongoing activities including Tai Chi, Ninjitsu, Latin dancing, short films, live music and an exhibition of photos. The photos were submitted by students for a competition entitled 'Crossing cultural bonds', aimed at promoting multiculturalism through art. The photo entries will be judged on the day by representatives of foreign embassies, and prizes will be awarded at the end of the event.
The event is being run by a group of Intercultural Communications students at University who are reading for a degree in various areas, including Communications, European Studies, B Com, Erasmus students and others. This event will also be a method of assessment for the students.
Human Rights Day
This Thursday is the international day dedicated to human rights and student organisations Greenhouse, JEF-Malta and USTA are organising debates, documentaries and a film criticism activity to increase awareness on this issue.
Students are encouraged to take part by forwarding ideas and opinions and attending these initiatives, which are being co-ordinated by the KSU's Social Policy Commission.
