The localities of Arvidsjaur in Sweden and Mtarfa have signed a twinning agreement, which will see the two cooperating in areas relating to sport, culture and education.
A delegation of over 50 residents from Arvidsjaur, led by municipal commissioner Jerry Johansson, travelled to Malta for the signing. Throughout their stay, the group visited various sites of historical and cultural value, and also met with President George Abela and Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.
Mr Johansson said "the visit to Malta was extremely interesting considering Malta's rich cultural and historical patrimony." He also said that such visits augured well for the development of relations between the localities, and even between the two countries.
The delegation was hosted at the Seashells Resort at the Suncrest Hotel, Qawra.
