Muscats Motors unveiled the latest member of BMW's 'X' family, the X1, at the prize-giving party for the BMW Sailing Cup, organised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club late last month.

The new BMW X1 takes its key styling cues and practicality from the X5 but shrinks them into a more compact and affordable package. Power comes from a choice of three diesel engines and, for the first time on a BMW X, the option to have rear-wheel-drive (sDrive) or four-wheel-drive (xDrive).

BMW's 'Efficient Dynamics' programme plays a significant part in the BMW X1 story, with the introduction of auto start-stop technology on an X product. Available on all manual transmission cars, the system improves fuel consumption.

The BMW X1 also features the full suite of 'Efficient Dynmamics' technologies, including brake energy regeneration, optimised aerodynamics, optimum shift indicator and on-demand use of ancillary units.

The BMW X1 starts at € 36,492.

Five members of the crew aboard Geisha, which won the regatta around Gozo, will be sent by BMW to represent Malta in the BMW Sailing World final in Auckland, New Zealand, next year.
