Tribali, the group best known for ethnic rhythms and its adaptations of music from the orient, dominated the Malta Music Awards last night, winning four of the five awards it was nominated for.

Tribali carried off the awards for Best Band, Best Album (The Elephants of Lanka), Best CD cover and Best Artist Image.

The show, held at Ta' Qali Fairs and Convention Centre, was characterised by the appearance on stage of Bee Gees group member Robin Gibb who was presented with an award by the President of Malta in recognition for his efforts in honouring the fallen in war.

Although he did not sing any song - to the disappointment of many - he promised, to great applause, to be back with his brother for a performance next year.

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to the ever-green Freddie Portelli.

Kevin Borg won the Best Male award yesterday while Carrie Haber was the Best Female.

The Best Artist Website was won by iralosco.com

Influential British radio presenter and media personality Mike Reed won the Recognition Award and Red Electrick carried off the Best New Artist Award.

The Best Song Award was won by 'Borderline' by Airport Impressions while Carrie Haber won the Best Songwriter Award, her second triumph of the night.

No Bling Show won the Best Video award with 'Lucija u Samuel'. They also won the Best Hip Hop/R n' B Award.

Tenishia vs Winter Moods went off with the Best Dance Production Award while Forsaken were handed the Best Heavy Metal Band Award.
