Scottish chef Bill Kendrew, who loves Gozo and is a frequent visitor to the island, last Monday presented a trophy and 10 medals to the Institute of Tourism Studies in Qala to be awarded to students who excel in their studies in the coming years.

The presentation was made to institute lecturer Fleur Attard. The trophy will be kept by the institute while two medals will be awarded each year - one will be awarded to the best chef and the other to the student who obtains the highest marks in restaurant service.

Mr Kendrew was present for the inauguration of the new institute last May. The standard achieved by the students in the preparation and service of refreshments on this occasion prompted Mr Kendrew to present these awards.
