Gasan Enterprises Ltd was presented the Overall HR Achievement of the Year award for its quality in people management and development during the eighth Foundation for Human Resources Development (FHRD) awards night.

Gasan also won the Excellent HR Initiative award.

There were 13 nominations for the awards, and organisations had to go through an assessment exercise by two committees set up by the foundation, made up of HR professionals.

During their reports, chairmen Roderick Cutajar and Jozie Devoy said they saw commitment to place priority on talent management, professionalism in people management and effectiveness in aligning HR development with the strategy of the organisation.

FHRD president John Muscat Drago said research showed that companies investing in the potential of their employees seem to fare better during the recession.

Chief executive officer Joe Gerada said the foundation was a catalyst for change in pushing towards greater aligning of values and competencies. The Overall HR Achievement award was presented by Johnny Sung, senior research fellow and lecturer from the Centre for Labour Market Studies of the University of Leicester.

The Excellence in People Management (Malta) award went to Hilton Malta. The Excellent HR Initiative award went to Alberta Ltd, Global Capital, HSBC Bank Malta, Island Hotels Group Holdings, Maltapost and the Ministry of Social Policy.

The Excellence in Training and Development award went to Maltapost. The Excellent Training and Development Initiative award went to Alberta Ltd, Bank of Valletta, Medicines Authority and Playmobil Malta Ltd.
