St Patrick 1

Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza was the star as Sliema put their poor league form to one side to easily qualify for the quarter-finals of the National league 100 Anniversary Cup.

Sliema were always in control after Mifsud Triganza headed past Sean Mintoff after 15 minutes. Ryan Fenech ended a four-man move to get Sliema's second, four minutes later. Mifsud Triganza scored his second goal of the game after 24 minutes. St. Patrick cut the deficit on the half hour mark with Thomas Caruana's swirling free-kick.

But Alex Muscat, with one minute to play, added Sliema's fourth from close range to cap a dominant display.

Hibs 3

Marsaxlokk 0

In the second match today, two goals inside the opening six minutes set Hibs on way to the quarter-finals of the National League 100 Anniversary Cup as the Premier League champions beat Marsaxlokk 3-0.

Hibernians could not have hoped for a better start. Hardly three minutes from the referee’s initial whistle had elapsed when Elkien Cauchi was on hand to divert Andrew Cohen’s mishit shot into the net.

Three minutes later, Hibs doubled their lead. Latvian striker Olegs Malasenoks ran past Emil Yanchev and hit a powerful shot past Glenn Zammit from close in. Adrian Pulis should have made it 3-0 for Hibs but he drove his shot inches wide of the far post with only Zammit to beat. Marsaxlokk took some time to regain the self-belief to attack Hibs after conceding two goals in the first six minutes but the Division One outfit improved as the minutes rolled by.

Latvian striker Maksims Danilovs had a strong effort saved by Mario Muscat and, early in the second half, Clive Brincat’s header flashed just wide of the near post. Muscat then saved Martin Deanov’s free-kick but three minutes past the hour, Etienne Barbara wrapped up Hibs’ victory when he scored his side’s third goal with a ferocious shot. In the dying moments, Cohen’s free-kick hit a post.
