Two wards for the elderly costing just under €2 million were inaugurated at Mount Carmel Hospital.

The San Ġorġ Preca and Santa Bernardetta wards cater for 63 elderly patients. They previously housed a storeroom and workshops and have been modified to house 29 beds in the first floor and 34 beds on the second floor. They now also include dining rooms, staff rooms, nursing stations, a consulting room, treatments rooms, pantries, sluice rooms and maids' quarters.

The wards have been fitted with environment-friendly measures, including double-glazed glass, large windows, energy saving bulbs, a power factor correction system and an efficient air conditioning system.
