A man awaiting trial by jury was yesterday charged with threatening a police inspector shortly after a judge revoked his bail.
Silvio Buttigieg, 36, was caught outdoors in the early hours of November 14 by police officers when one of his bail conditions laid down that he should be in by midnight, Police Inspector Victor Aquilina said.
The police filed a request to revoke his bail, which was upheld by Mr Justice David Scicluna. As a result, he lost a €4,660 deposit he had made and a €16,310 personal guarantee. On leaving the court room, Mr Buttigieg allegedly turned to the prosecuting officer, Police Inspector Jesmond Borg, and insulted him.
Mr Buttigieg pleaded not guilty to harassing the officer, threatening him and relapsing. Since the bail in the previous case had been revoked, Mr Buttigieg was remanded in custody.
