A man who allegedly pressured a prison nurse to smuggle drugs into the Corradino Correctional Facility was yesterday arraigned together with a woman who is charged with drug possession.
Kevin Zammit, 37, of Pietà and Rita Camilleri, 39, of Ħamrun pleaded not guilty to possession of and trafficking in heroin and cannabis.
Mr Zammit was also charged with putting pressure on the nurse to commit a crime.
The nurse, Jacqueline Dipasquale, 41, was arraigned on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to trafficking in heroin, possessing cannabis in circumstances denoting it was not for her exclusive use and being in possession of psychotropic drugs without a licence. The mother of two also pleaded not guilty to taking the drugs into prison.
Magistrate Lawrence Quintano granted Ms Camilleri bail against a deposit of €1,000 and a personal guarantee of €11,000.
Mr Zammit was granted bail against a deposit of €2,000 and a personal guarantee of €10,000.
Police Inspector Pierre Grech prosecuted.
